About Storahtelling

Storahtelling is a pioneer in innovative Jewish education by means of the arts. Through performance events and leadership training programs, Storahtelling employs a unique approach to advancing Judaic literacy and engagement, restoring ancient stories for new generations.

Founded in 1999, Storahtelling aims to revitalize and make more accessible the narratives and rituals that have come to define Jewish life – many which have struggled to adapt to modern times. In nine years of operation of, and with generous support from the community, Storahtelling has grown from one man’s vision to a fully functioning and sustainable not-for-profit organization, with five full-time and three part-time staff, over 100 affiliated educators and artists, an active board of directors and a growing network of supporters, fans and partners nationwide.

In the 2006 report, Cultural Events & Jewish Identities, published by the UJA Federation of NY and the National Foundation for Jewish Culture, sociologists Steven M. Cohen and Ari Kelman focus on Storahtelling’s work as a vital agency in contemporary Jewish life : “Storahtelling is part of a broad set of endeavors that define Jewish life and community by and for a new generation…the potential of these Jewish cultural events is to strengthen networks, create community, and incubate leadership; to project a view of Jewish engagement that is contemporary and enticing; to serve as a laboratory and model of cultural change for institutional Judaism; and to contribute historically to the construction of Jewish culture in New York and the country.”

Tribeca Hebrew offers a welcoming environment in which children and adults alike can explore and express their connections with Judaism. Tribeca Hebrew’s programming strives to be fun, engaging and inspiring for children and their families. Our hope is that the Tribeca Hebrew experience will help build a foundation for Jewish identity and lifelong spiritual discovery. The Tribeca Hebrew community continues to grow organically and is not affiliated with any particular synagogue or Jewish movement. We come from varied backgrounds and believe this diversity makes Tribeca Hebrew a dynamic place to explore Jewish life.
